Review: Fantasy Grove Daybreak Dildo

Daybreak from Fantasy Grove is a sleek, shape-forward dildo. It’s one of a number of new humanoid dildos on the indie sex toy market, following a recent trend towards familiar and accessible shapes. With its moderate swell, notable head, and beautiful curve, it ticks some of my boxes while offering a new take on the classic shape.

Design & Specs

As the first of Fantasy Grove’s Fundamentals line (which currently consists of Daybreak and Midnight Hour), Daybreak is a fairly straightforward model with a design intended to appeal to a broad audience, including beginners.

Daybreak is thick at the top and thinner just above the base. Texture is minimal: It has a rounded head with subtle ripples beneath while the rest of the shaft is completely smooth. The polished finish is in between satin and gloss, making it shine beautifully. My Daybreak is medium firmness 00-50 and large size (usable length 7.5″ and max girth 2.2″ diameter/7″ circumference). It is available in 6 sizes and a range of firmnesses. The model was designed by Deviant Gardens.

Mine is a custom dark blue marble coloration inspired by Fantasy Grove’s Mariana Trench pours. Deep sea green, blue, cobalt, and a boatload of shimmer come together to make this a breathtakingly beautiful pour, with the color depth enhanced by the polished finish. The marbling on one side has smeared together—something that could happen to any colors during production, since these are handmade products crafted with a liquid medium—but with these particular colors, the result makes the dildo look more ocean-y as a result, almost like it’s a marble on one side and fade on the other.

Fantasy Grove offers made-to-order style customs. A large MTO Daybreak with a three-color marble would be $105. (Fantasy Grove can mix additional colors by email request, which is how I requested my colors rather than picking from the MTO menu.) Their toys are also available through inventory restocks/drops.

In Use (Vaginal)

As someone who prefers medium-size dildos, large Daybreak is on the larger end of my comfort zone, making it great for a filled and stretched feeling. I need to be decently aroused to use it comfortably, so I can’t lube it up and pop it in cold as I sometimes do when impatient.

While I don’t need prep to use Daybreak—only arousal—I do need prep to use thicker dildos, so Daybreak is just the right size for me to warm up for those.

Size comparison with similarly sized dildos: Medium Fantasy Grove Jackalope, medium Paladin Pleasure Sculptors Aquus, large FG Daybreak, medium PPS Titan, and medium Weredog Nile.

The beauty and smoothness of near-gloss, without the uncomfortable friction of dried-out high gloss, works really well for me as it lets the toy glide in and out easily. I was initially worried that the polished finish could be too glossy for me to use comfortably, but thankfully, it’s not too glossy to hold lube. I do need to reapply lube more often than with matte dildos, but not nearly as often as I need to for high gloss dildos.

The base is very easy to hold. I wasn’t sure it would be since there didn’t seem to be much space to grip, but it’s easy to grip the tapered edges while maintaining enough support to thrust, as long as I wipe off excess lube.

I can feel the coronal ridge against my front wall, but it’s relatively subtle, more like a constant gentle pressure than the “oomph” that I get with Titan or Adventurer. The head works well for low-intensity front wall stimulation, especially closer to the A-spot. Due to the size, I can’t angle it easily for targeted G-spot stimulation.

The texture on Daybreak is nearly nonexistent; I almost cannot feel the ripples beneath the head. Sometimes I register a little sensation, but otherwise, they might as well not be there.

Where Daybreak shines is the swell. It may not lock in as intensely as a knot or a sharp swell, but it offers the best of both worlds: I can thrust fast and hard without difficulty pulling it back out, or I can sit and keep it inside comfortably as the swell stays in place (even though I can’t fit the entire length). The stretch at the top is nice and filling while the thinner bottom portion offers my entrance some relief.

The underside of the curve is excellent. It presses right up against my front wall for constant pressure, including broad G-spot stimulation. I’m a huge fan of curves that are large and strong enough for that kind of stimulation. While it may not have texture like I prefer, the curve itself is fantastic at this angle.

Overall

Daybreak has a strong shape, is easy to hold, is designed to be harness-compatible, and comes in a variety of incredible colors. It’s available in six sizes and a range of firmnesses, guaranteeing a fit for almost everyone.

As far as my tastes go, Daybreak has a limited place in my toybox. The swell and underside of the curve are really nice and the size is a comfortable way to warm up for my largest toys, but the head is not as strong as I had hoped. (To be fair, my standards for low-texture dildos are very high.) If I’m warmed up enough for the size to be comfortable, then I’m warmed up enough to want stronger texture and a more prominent head.

Daybreak may be a good choice for those who prefer low texture thanks to the low-intensity head, nice swell, and ease of use, and in smaller sizes, it should be a relatively gentle dildo suitable for beginners.
