Review: Erotic Effect Krothur Dragon Dildo (+ Suction Cup Accessories)

Krothur is a particularly thick dragon dildo, stout and muscular with a dramatic swell and fierce scales, which was recently nominated for the 2025 Bazowie Awards. I’m not surprised; I love the powerful look and a great swell can be hard to pull off. Add a line of texture and you’ve got a formula for an amazing dildo.

Design & Specs

Erotic Effect, based in Aotearoa New Zealand, produces a selection of sex toys including completely fantastical designs and new takes on classic shapes (like the adorable Mr Bowtie). Their iconic Aearvon dildo and Aerlyn stroker, both aquatic-inspired designs with beautiful details, are gorgeous additions to my collection with lovely frilled textures.

Krothur has a lot of features that I like: A thick swell, very strong curve, and scaled texture along one side. That said, I wasn’t sure how the curve and texture would work out with such a strong swell, especially since I sometimes find texture too intense on plugs (Krothur’s swell is such that it’s pretty close to being a plug itself). Visually, I’m a huge fan of the muscular appearance.

In medium size, it’s very thick: the widest point is 7.7″ circumference/2.5″ diameter. Thicker than other dildos that push my limits. Small size would’ve been too small for me when it comes to my taste in swells, so instead of sizing down, I got it softer than my usual preference so that it’s easier to squeeze in. I only tend to go for soft dildos when they’re highly textured or very thick since they can otherwise be too soft for me to feel well.

The satin finish offers sufficient friction in use and makes it appear somewhat glossy, showing off the shimmer beautifully. My Krothur is in the Summer Lavender colorway, a sparkly fade of light purple to white. When made-to-order (MTO) listings are available, this is one of their available color options.

Medium Krothur starts at $150 NZD ($88 USD) for both inventory and MTOs. You can get 10% off through my affiliate links or with code: FROST. (This may stack with other promotions.)

In Use (Vaginal)

Krothur is a lot easier to take than I anticipated! Despite the girth, it enters with little to no discomfort depending on how warmed up I am. If I’m not fully warmed up, it stretches my entrance a bit in a way I’m not fond of, but it isn’t painful, and that’s typical of toys that push my girth limits.

The head is broad, making it difficult to insert without pushing it inside. The stem is very flexible, so pushing it inside can take some maneuvering. If it were any larger or if I were trying to use it anally, the shape would be a challenge. Since it’s within my specs, it just takes a tiny bit more time, effort, and lube than other dildos.

In soft firmness, Krothur offers a gentle-to-moderate stretch. The softness provides less pressure compared to firmer dildos, but I can still feel it inside very well. It’s filling and I know it’s there, but it’s not as prominent as some of my other thick dildos and I can lose a little bit of the sensation when I’m not moving. It’s a very similar stretch to the one I get from the knot on Vang.

The stem allows the swell to tie very well. I can actually stand and walk around while keeping it inside with minimal effort. Even though it’s not a knotted dildo, having a swell that locks in nicely makes it great for grinding or for sitting while playing externally. I love rocking my hips atop Krothur while sitting on a chair; I get that filling sensation and a teasing pressure against my front wall that really gets me going. With the right angle, it nudges against my G-spot very nicely.

I prefer having the underside against my front wall since this is the more dramatic side of the swell and it locks better. This leaves the scaly side against my back wall. I barely notice the texture that way, which works out fine for me since I find texture less pleasant against my back wall. The other way around, with the scales against my front wall, I get less pressure against my front wall but I can feel the scales nicely while grinding.

The scales are gentler than I expected. I barely feel them unless I’m moving, and they’re softer and smoother than anticipated. While they look intense, I would consider them mild to moderate. They provide just enough texture to complement the swell, which I enjoy in this case.

The base is practical for holding, thrusting, and preventing lube from dripping onto whatever I’m sitting on top of. It does not make it easy to grind against something else while using Krothur and does not make it easy to walk while plugged.

For thrusting, I can use the last couple inches, or I can go all the way in and out for a sensation similar to knot-fucking which stretches my entrance. I’m not as keen on the entrance stretch as I am internal stretching, so I prefer treating Krothur more like a plug than a dildo.

Suction Cup Accessories

The Finger Grip and double-sided Suction Cups are new accessories in Erotic Effect’s lineup, and the finger grip in particular is something I haven’t seen elsewhere on the market. All of them have hearts along the sides.

They all have very strong suction, but are easy to remove when adding pressure from the side or pulling the little tab. The Suction Cups are shore firmness 10A and the Finger Grip is 45A, which is super firm. Firmer silicone often means stronger suction. They’re all very flexible despite the firmness; I can completely squish down the ring on the Finger Grip.

The suction surface is 2.4″ across on the small Suction Cup (fully pushed down), 3.4″ across on the large Suction Cup, and 2.2″ on the Finger Grip. Toy bases should be at least this width or wider to successfully use the accessories with them. (Medium Krothur’s base is 4×3.2″, so should use the small Suction Cup.)

The finger hole on the Finger Grip is around 0.8″ across/around 3″ circumference. This should fit most people, especially since it doesn’t need to sit all the way down on the finger or be snug, but this may not fit comfortably for those with wider fingers since the ring doesn’t stretch easily.

The Finger Grip makes it easier to use some dildos, but has limited benefit for me. With my middle finger in the hole, I can push and pull a dildo by pressing/pulling against the base without wrapping my fingers around it. It works with my small and medium size dildos, but not the large ones. The pull factor makes the thrusting cycle go more smoothly with less finger strain. I love reduced finger strain, but I don’t love having to adjust the grip throughout the play session; if I switch hands or change the angle, I need to detach and rotate the grip. It stays in place pretty well and doesn’t usually detach from the toy unless I intentionally remove it.

I primarily use suction cups with my suction cup handle. Other people have more inventive uses inside and outside of the bedroom. (The shower wall is just too awkward for me, personally.) Both suction cups fit my Silc Arts handle.

The small one needs to be centered on the handle’s flat surface otherwise it will come off in use. Once set, it’s pretty secure and works well with my small- and medium-size dildos. It doesn’t matter if the base is double the width; the suction cup is strong.

While the large Suction Cup fits my largest toys and can suction onto the bases just fine, they’re heavy and unwieldy, so it gets kind of clunky and more difficult than just thrusting with my hands. Many of them also stand fine thanks to the weight of their own bases and don’t need a suction cup to keep them in place for riding. That said, I can see a use for keeping them more secure with a suction cup against the floor.

All of these accessories are more prone to disconnecting when used with toys that have moderate-to-high resistance to being pulled out, like knotted dildos or strong swells (including Krothur). This is typical of suction cups. They still work, they just might pop off from time to time.

A medium size (maybe 2.8″ diameter) would be a better fit for many of my dildos, but the small size is pretty effective considering the strength of the suction.

The Finger Grip and small Suction Cup are $50 NZD ($30 USD) each, while the large Suction Cup is $65 NZD ($39 USD).

Overall

Krothur’s thick swell fits very nicely, pressing against the right spots and locking in well for a great plugged experience. In soft firmness, it is easy to use and doesn’t challenge me in the way that a firmer dildo would. The texture is very mild; this dildo is all about the shape. I would easily recommend Krothur to anyone interested in a swell that locks in, with the caveat that the head could be difficult to insert.

The Finger Grip reduces finger strain when using small and medium dildos, while the small Suction Cup is compatible with those same toys when using my favorite handle. Both have strong suction. The Finger Grip is worth getting for the comfort factor, although it may need to be readjusted during use if you change hands or angles during play.
